A plain-English glossary of the fabrics we use — how each feels, drapes and should be cared for.
Cotton
Soft, breathable, absorbent
The everyday hot-weather classic. Cotton lets air move and feels gentle on skin, though it wrinkles easily and can feel damp once fully saturated. Best for casual, daytime wear.
Care: Cold machine wash, wash inside out, line or flat dry. Iron on medium while slightly damp.
Crepe
Lightly textured, matte, drapey
A crinkled-surface fabric that resists wrinkles and drapes beautifully — dressier than cotton while staying light. Popular for work dresses and occasion wear.
Care: Hand-wash or delicate cycle in cold water, never wring, dry flat, low or no heat. See our full crepe care guide.
Chiffon
Sheer, floaty, delicate
A very light, airy fabric that moves with the breeze — ideal for dressy, romantic summer looks. Usually lined for coverage.
Care: Hand-wash cold or dry-clean, dry flat away from sunlight, steam rather than iron.
Georgette
Sheer but slightly heavier, more forgiving
Similar to chiffon but with a little more body and a subtle crinkle, so it drapes gracefully and hides creases. A dependable choice for events.
Care: Hand-wash cold or dry-clean, dry flat, low-heat steam.
Rayon / Viscose
Silky, cool, fluid
A plant-based fibre that feels cool and drapes like silk at a friendlier price. Very comfortable in heat, but it can shrink if washed carelessly.
Care: Cold hand-wash or gentle cycle, don't wring, dry flat. Avoid hot water and tumble drying.
Linen
Crisp, breathable, textured
One of the most breathable fabrics there is — perfect for peak summer. It wrinkles freely, which is part of its relaxed character rather than a flaw.
Care: Cold machine wash on gentle, line dry, iron while damp if you prefer it crisp.
Polyester blends
Smooth, durable, wrinkle-resistant
Often blended with natural fibres for durability and easy care. Pure polyester traps heat, so in summer look for blends where a breathable fibre dominates.
Care: Machine wash cold, tumble dry low, low iron. Check the blend for any delicate fibres.
